Netflix’s “watch now”

watch now

Apparently I got pretty lucky today and was able to add a “watch now” tab to my Netflix account. The service is very slick with a surprising number of titles available. When connected via wireless lan, the quality was restricted to “basic”. However, when connecting directly to a cable modem, I was able to download a movie in a higher quality. Even in full screen mode, the experience was better than iTunes. I’ll be interested to compare it to Yahoo’s TiVo partnership that’s launching later this year. So far, I’m very impressed. Connecting the PC to a television and watching the movie that way was reasonably close to watching a DVD. This is an exciting service.

One drawback is that it requires IE and a PC. I’m sure there will be workarounds however, at some point. Would Apple allow this to run on a Mac as a competitor? Interesting question …
