Library Usability Links 1/16/09

  • Smashing Magazine has a comprehensive article on Mobile Web Design with discussion, pointers, and screen shots of good design. This chart on screen sizes caught my eye:
    • mobile-screen-sizes
  • Jared Spool has an interesting case study on a usability project that discovered the existence of a $300 million button.
  • Here’s another mouse tracker, which  makes use of javascript on your page to track user behavior, called  userfly.
  • Swype is a fascinatingly usable  interface for mobile devices. Check out the video.
  • Mashable.com has a good overview of what Usability is not. I especially like number eight, which is a crucial point for smaller libraries.
  • On the flipside, Library WebHead points to the Darien Library which has its own UX Department.
  • In the UK, one group of library administrators want to rebrand their librarians as “Audience Development Officers“, which I doubt is a user-centered label.
